Started renting direct from the landlord then it switched to an agency. I could stand with my feet on the floor and touch the ceiling with a flat hand almost everywhere in the unit. The walls were crooked, it had rising damp, unsafe stairs, a cockroach problem and windows that wouldn’t close properly when it was humid. The landlord refused to fix anything and then hit me with a rent increase. The first one was given verbally with nothing in writing. When I pushed back and said it wasn’t valid he stopped talking to me and handed it off to a real estate agent who ended up being worse. They tried to take me to NCAT for several months' rent even though I left the place in way better condition than I found it.
