The property itself is fine, but it’s clearly a slapdash reno. Doors are way out of plumb, you can see through the floor to the dirt below in some spots, and the windows and awnings leak during heavy rain. The house sits over damp clay soil which causes moisture to rise through the floor, creating major mould issues, especially in the wet season.
The real issue is the landlords. They were manipulative and threatening, like saying they’d sell the house when asked to consider a smaller rent increase or sending inspection notices as a reaction to being challenged. They either didn’t understand tenancy laws or ignored them, trying to enforce a $4000 break lease fee. Their mother did the inspections and was openly dismissive of one tenant, even implying they were lazy because of a disability. Communication was done through voice memos to "include tone" which came across as belittling.
They also delayed repairs and then blamed us for them not being done, even when we had flagged the issues multiple times. The house could be liveable if properly maintained, but the landlords were power-tripping and completely unprofessional.
