The property had numerous unresolved maintenance and safety issues. The stovetop was effectively unusable, with one burner visibly damaged and the others smoking when used. The rangehood also did not function properly. Skirting boards were cracked and separating from walls, exposing crumbling material underneath, and the main bedroom door trim pulled away when the door was opened.
Upstairs floorboards creaked throughout and the main bedroom floor visibly curved toward the centre, causing wardrobe doors to slide open. There were no ceiling fans in the bedrooms, making the property uncomfortable in Queensland heat. Carpet staples protruded through the flooring and regularly caught feet.
The downstairs screen door could be lifted off its track and had no proper lock, making it unsafe to leave the glass door open for ventilation. Bathroom facilities were poorly designed with minimal storage or bench space. Despite being close to the beach, the property had many basic maintenance, comfort and security issues that did not justify the rent.
