I moved in on a Sunday and found the apartment had not been cleaned. The real estate was closed, the after hours number did not answer, and I cleaned it myself. The floors appeared never to have been cleaned, the mop water was black.
The owner had lived there previously and left items in the car space, including a table top, paint cans and a BBQ. Window seals were poor and rain regularly came in through the sliding window tracks. The blinds were mouldy, so I removed and cleaned them, then the property manager questioned this at the end of the tenancy.
Water got under the floorboards from the shower area and went up the wall twice. The bathroom was retiled the first time but the issue persisted.
The property manager was ineffective and only responded when I escalated to the director. The director was helpful during a power outage and came over to troubleshoot before an electrician arrived. On exit the property manager questioned the oven, blinds and water damaged wall despite evidence and earlier emails about the issues. Overall, it felt like the owner did not care for the property.
