It was an absolute dump. I lived there for years and by the time I left, I’d paid nearly as much in rent as the owner had paid to buy the place, around $78,000.
The rent went up every year, but nothing ever improved. There was no heating or cooling, and every request to get it installed was refused. Inside, it would reach over 40 degrees in summer and drop below zero in winter.
The kitchen and bathroom were falling apart. Cabinets looked like they were done by hand. Peeling lino, chipped drawers, knobs missing. I had to replace runners and handles myself. The mould in the kitchen and bathroom couldn’t be scrubbed out, not even with bleach or anti fungal products.
Cockroaches were everywhere. I had to seal the gaps in the brickwork just to stop them coming in.
No repairs were done the entire time I was there. The hot water barely lasted 20 minutes, less in winter. The shower screen was cracked and dangerous. I asked for it to be fixed every six months and nothing happened. The front door would lock you out if it shut behind you, and interior doors would slam open if the windows were open.
The foundation was shifting. Cracks were forming, and I was told I’d be the one held responsible.
Now it’s been relisted with AI staged photos that look nothing like the real thing.
