Moving in was difficult because the staircase could not accommodate large furniture, requiring a specialised crane at significant cost. The heating and air conditioning did not work for around six months, and once repaired were extremely noisy. The property also initially had no working stove or curtains, and the council bin provided was inadequate for the size of the home.
Electrical circuits regularly tripped when basic kitchen appliances were used together. Fixtures were poor quality, with toilet seats breaking shortly after move in. A leaking bathtub tap caused flooding and mould due to inadequate waterproofing.
Throughout the tenancy, the landlord and agency were largely unresponsive to ongoing maintenance issues despite the $1,400 weekly rent. After a successful exit inspection, they attempted to claim against the bond through VCAT but did not attend the hearing. Overall, the combination of maintenance problems, poor facilities, high rent and lack of responsiveness made the tenancy extremely stressful.
