This property had multiple major problems, including toxic mould left untreated for more than eight months. During this time the landlord and agency raised the rent by 12% while the house was uninhabitable. There was flooding in the back area, unsafe and non-compliant electrical wiring, and a non-compliant rangehood and oven. When we were given a notice to vacate, the landlord and agency took over a month to refund overpaid rent. The landlord lives overseas and appeared to have little understanding of their legal responsibilities toward tenants, including trying to increase rent while the home was unsafe.
