I lived in the bungalow nearly a decade ago and woke up to find the ceiling partially collapsed — thankfully not directly on me. I was paying rent but wasn’t listed on the lease. When I informed the landlord about the collapse, he responded by evicting me. This happened in the middle of winter. He even turned up on a Sunday with several people to tell me I had 14 days to leave, despite there being a spare room in the main house and the other tenants wanting me to stay. The whole experience was deeply unethical. The property was in terrible condition, and the owner, who apparently holds multiple properties on the same street, had let them deteriorate in anticipation of demolishing and redeveloping them into townhouses. Rotten house, rotten management, and no sense of decency.
