The property was managed by a real estate agency, but the landlord would often drive past and sit outside to ‘monitor’ the house, which felt extremely intrusive and unsafe for two young women living there. The house itself was in poor condition, with mould in the kitchen and bathroom constantly returning. The kitchen, made entirely of decaying 1980s wood, was falling apart and contaminating utensils and food. Gaps in the walls allowed pests to enter, and the hot water system provided barely ten minutes of hot water before being replaced after repeated complaints. The rent was far too high for such a neglected property.
