The property was freshly painted before being listed for sale, but the paint barely concealed serious problems, including apparent breaches of minimum rental standards. During our tenancy from 2021 to 2024, the landlord repeatedly cited a lack of funds and made little effort to complete necessary repairs.
A professional mould inspection identified extensive recurring damp and mould caused by poor structural ventilation and a high internal dew point. Recommended works, including installing a bathroom exhaust fan and reopening vents, were not completed. Instead, black mould was painted over and we paid for some ventilation improvements ourselves. A doctor linked respiratory symptoms and a rash to the mould.
The house also had significant structural damage, with rotting foundations and the front sinking into the ground. Rats and mice were regularly seen throughout the property. The kitchen roof leaked during rain, dangerous ungrounded power points were not repaired, and the heater reportedly leaked carbon monoxide. Despite repeated requests, there was little support from the landlord or agency. I would not rent or buy this property.
