This property was one of the worst rental experiences imaginable. Within weeks of moving in, mushrooms were growing from the kitchen cabinets due to water damage, which the landlord 'treated' by spraying vinegar. The downstairs was unfinished, infested with ants and spiders, and had rotting carpet. The floorboards were dangerously unstable and the balconies did not meet legal standards – one had no railing at all. Heating did not work, the dishwasher never functioned, and the garden was unusable with rats living in debris. The landlord was sexist and dismissive, ignoring maintenance issues and treating tenants with disrespect. The agency, O'Brien Real Estate Tecoma, showed little care and took no real action despite repeated complaints. Ultimately, VCAT action allowed us to leave without penalty. The only positives were the views and surrounding nature, but the property itself was unsafe, neglected, and uninhabitable.
