The landlord lived interstate and insisted a local ‘family friend’ accompany the agent for all routine inspections — never communicated in advance and, I’m fairly certain, not legal. This ‘family friend’ was an odd character the neighbours said had ‘gone wrong after a horse kicked him in the head’. It was deeply uncomfortable knowing he had access to our home. The property had typical DIY issues like wall paint on the kitchen benchtops, a garage crammed with the landlord’s possessions, and heating/cooling in only one room. Rent increases came like clockwork, and after we moved out, the landlord tried to keep our bond for ‘gardening’ until we sent before/after photos proving the condition was already poor. They backed down quietly. Overall, it’s a decent house in a great area, but the landlord’s behaviour and questionable practices made for an uneasy tenancy. Take detailed condition photos if you rent here.
