Granny flat/studio attached to the landlords’ home. Rent was demanded in cash to avoid Centrelink visibility, rose several times and eventually to 25/week (partly cash) with threats to leave if unpaid. Privacy and boundaries were ignored; the landlords entered without notice, shouted, and blamed me for their personal issues. Repairs were neglected and I was made to purchase or fix items myself. One morning the landlord, his wife and brother walked into my flat at 7:30am while I was asleep. After I left, they emailed people in our church with personal and misleading claims. Overall: unsafe, intrusive and financially exploitative experience — a major red flag.
