At first the landlord seemed polite, but quickly showed themselves to be stingy and exploitative. Repairs were constantly refused or carried out by unqualified people, often without notice. The laundry floor and window were broken for the entire tenancy, while a dangerous heater was left faulty for months until eventually replaced after much pressure. Mould became severe in winter and spread through bedrooms, with the landlord dismissing it as our problem and telling us to 'open the windows' in freezing conditions. Electrical work revealed unsafe wiring, no safety switch, and circuits held together with tape. Even after major rewiring, the landlord resisted fixing the final unsafe room. Inspections were used to criticise cleanliness while ignoring genuine hazards. Bond deductions were unreasonable and mould stains were simply painted over for the next tenants.
