This old Queenslander had three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a renovated kitchen and a pool, but the age of the place showed in all the worst ways. The main bedroom floor sloped from sinking stumps. Termite-damaged panels were replaced but never painted. There were dodgy paint jobs, halogen lights, broken window latches and wiring problems that were raised more than once but never fixed properly. Even the stairs weren’t repaired until I fell through one because of wood rot. The pool leaked.
Lease renewals were handled suspiciously. Maintenance requests were either ignored or passed off to some cheap handyman with a bad quote. It was annoying but kind of manageable when the rent was still low. The real problem was the neighbour. The guy next door dealt drugs out the front, blasted music from morning until night, screamed constantly, keyed a car and yelled slurs. There was homophobic abuse and regular shouting matches. It made the whole place feel unsafe.
Not a good place for light sleepers, families, women or queer tenants. Or really anyone who doesn’t want to live next to that.
