Where do I even start. It was a 100 year old house with listing photos from 2014, nothing like what we walked into. At the inspection, the previous tenants had candles burning to cover the stench of dog piss in all three carpeted bedrooms and we got tricked. Two weeks later we moved in, and the door handle fell off as I walked in. One set of keys for two adults, half didn’t work. The condition report said pristine, but the carpets were wet and reeking from a dodgy steam and deodorise job.
We offered $805 instead of $795 thinking we were lucky. Big mistake. Agent’s cleaners said wait five days for their mix to work, so we slept on the kitchen floor. It got worse. We had to rush to a pet-friendly Airbnb, which they refused to reimburse. Took two weeks to agree to replace carpets, which only took three days once they did.
Communication was useless, no urgency or care. Sliding kitchen door barely worked, roller gate motor dead, bedroom door hanging by one hinge, main bedroom floor sloping from the house shifting. Bathroom had mould on the ceiling, tiles falling off, water leaking under the shower door and warping the floor, whole place stank. One window had mushrooms growing inside the broken glass frame, the other was completely rotten. Side yard too overgrown to walk through. Broken power sockets, taped-up light fittings, no door stops so doors slammed into walls, broken vents, cobwebs, dust, junk under the house and in the yard, possums getting in through roof holes.
VCAT and two months in, still a mess. They sent a dodgy plumber, junk still not cleared, possums almost gone, sliding door ignored. We’re stuck here until 2026. Place should be demolished. Landlord doesn’t care. Agency doesn’t care. No one should ever have to go through this.
