The property looked decent at inspection and the agency seemed professional initially, but everything went downhill soon after moving in. There were multiple rental code and safety issues that should have been addressed before leasing, including a jammed front door with a broken handle, no locks on windows, and an incorrect rear door and installation. Instead of fixing them, the landlord and agent dragged it out for around six months with repeated refusals on the basis it was not in the landlord’s budget. The agent left aggressive voicemails and emails and brought the landlord over to berate me in an attempt to intimidate me into dropping lawful repair requests.
Beyond that, there were signs of rising damp, no underlay insulation, sinking floors and a general lack of cleanliness from the previous tenancy. The hot water unit had not been properly serviced, mobile reception inside was poor, there was no NBN connection, and the landlord would walk past and reportedly duck in when they thought nobody was home. Overall it was an intimidating and unsafe renting experience with poor management and accountability.
