This house was uninhabitable and the landlord made the experience intolerable. The floorboards were rotting, the kitchen floor was just contact paper over cement, and the roof leaked. Gaps in the walls and floors meant cold winds came straight inside. When I moved in there was a gas leak so severe the provider shut off the gas — it took over two months to get a working stove. The landlord, who lived next door, was abusive and controlling. He blocked the agency from arranging proper repairs, used unlicensed friends for dangerous electrical work, and screamed threats of eviction. At one point he handled raw sewage with his bare hands while accusing me of causing the problem. He ignored flea and cockroach infestations, pressured me for extra money, and even tried to bully me into fraudulently obtaining government flood relief for him. I strongly suspect he entered the property without permission when I was out. This was by far the worst tenancy I’ve experienced — unsafe, unsanitary, and managed by an aggressive bully.
