I stayed in this property for two years, mostly stuck there through COVID. The location was the only redeeming factor. The roof leaked through light fittings and beams whenever it rained, walls swelled with water and the whole unit smelled musty with mould that kept spreading. The landlords refused to make any repairs – not even a tarp over the roof – claiming their usual tradesman was unavailable. They relied on unqualified friends and family for patch-up jobs. The mould destroyed my soft furnishings and personal belongings, leaving me with rashes and headaches. Despite this, the rent was increased during the tenancy. Noise and safety were also constant problems: the upstairs neighbour was abusive and aggressive, the property was surrounded by overgrown grasses that attracted snakes, and the roadside location was a blind spot where cars were regularly damaged. Fair Trading was contacted about the conditions. It was by far the worst rental I’ve experienced, especially given the owners have multiple properties and still showed zero care for tenant wellbeing.
