This property was advertised as a house, but in reality it was half of a split dwelling with paper-thin walls. The lounge floorboards bowed underfoot and part of the ceiling collapsed after two days of rain, destroying belongings. The ‘repair’ was to rip out the sodden insulation and leave it exposed for months. The result was a freezing, uninhabitable space with constant illness and extreme heating bills. Black mould spread through the bathroom, bedroom and living areas due to zero ventilation, and a possum lived in the roof, urinating through gaps at night. Electrical sockets sat illegally close to water sources, and the front door opened onto a shared yard with no privacy.
When we left, the agency wrongly withheld our bond, painted over the damage, and misrepresented us in references leaving us homeless for nearly two years. This was one of the most unsafe and damaging rentals imaginable.
