This terrace looked fine on the surface but turned out to be a nightmare. From the day we moved in, plumbing leaks from the upper bathrooms sent water straight into our bedroom. The landlord denied anything was wrong until finally admitting one bathroom leaked his ‘solution’ was to cut into our ceiling, hide a bucket in the cavity, and cover it with a vent, claiming the airflow would dry it out. We later found the living room showed the same damage, with vents hiding swollen plaster from the second bathroom leak. The result was mould exposure that left us with serious health problems. When we considered tribunal action, we were told we’d need to pay for our own professional mould report, which made it stressful and risky.
In the end, we broke the lease early and accepted a penalty of three weeks’ rent just to get out. Easily the most negligent property and landlord we’ve ever dealt with.
