For four years this house had serious roof leaks. The agent told me to keep using buckets under the four leaking spots, and nothing was fixed. I used fans to dry the floor each time it rained, but mould eventually spread through the bedrooms. For eight months my six children and I had to sleep in the lounge because the bedrooms smelled of damp and mould. I went to Consumer Affairs and VCAT, which ordered repairs, but the agents ignored it and issued two notices to vacate instead. Their manager even told me it was sad I was making the children live in a mouldy house. They refused to renew the lease, never carried out repairs, and sold the house after I left. It was a distressing experience that showed how little care was given to tenants’ health and wellbeing.
