This place hadn’t seen proper repairs in over eight years by the time I moved in. I ended up staying just over four years and spent much of that time trying to keep the house liveable myself. The agent told me I could carry out maintenance with the owner's permission, I even covered the costs upfront expecting reimbursement. But later I was told the owner had never actually approved the work, leaving me out of pocket by over $3,000. To make it worse, the agent stole money from us during this time. One of the biggest safety concerns was the electrical system. It was a serious hazard and getting even basic circuit breakers installed was a drawn-out battle. Eventually, it got done, but only after a lot of pressure. Strangely enough, the owner was supposedly a builder, electrician and tiler yet had let the place fall into such disrepair.
