Moving into this granny flat felt like a mistake from day one, but we had little choice at the time. The landlord constantly entered without notice once even while I was in the shower under the excuse of doing laundry. On another occasion they allowed a stranger claiming to be an electrician to walk straight into our place, leaving us shocked and feeling unsafe. It was clear someone else was also using the laundry mid-week when we were both at work.
Later, we were told to leave by text message from their daughter, which a lawyer confirmed wasn’t a valid eviction. They claimed she needed the flat, yet the house upstairs had a spare master bedroom. It felt more like they were lining up the next tenant. To make things worse, they tried to charge extra if my daughter stayed with us, so she ended up spending most of her time at her grandmother’s. Privacy was non-existent, and we were constantly gaslit and overcharged. This landlord took advantage of us as a young couple in every possible way.
