Please, I beg you – do not lease this house. I have listed the incidents that occurred during the 2.5 years I lived here.
The condition of the house remained unchanged the entire time. The oven was filthy when we moved in. We never felt safe using it and avoided it throughout the tenancy. Behind the toilet was a thick layer of dirt. I repeatedly asked for it to be cleaned because my housemates were getting sick. It was physically impossible for me to clean it safely as a tenant, and the health impact was serious.
Black mould in the bathroom was another major issue. We raised it repeatedly, expressing our health concerns, but it was never resolved. The mirror in the bathroom fell and shattered due to water damage. It could have seriously injured someone. The kitchen and laundry floors were broken and uneven, posing a clear trip hazard. The shower rail regularly came loose and fell on us during use. The oven’s exhaust fan didn’t work, and a wire hung over the stove directly above the flame. These were all potential injury or fire risks.
The garage roof and foundations were unstable and unsafe. We avoided using it completely. The front door could not be opened with a key, so we had to use the side door. The front yard and entrance were always covered in rubbish. The floors throughout the house were filthy when we arrived—scrubbing them revealed a different colour underneath.
Getting our bond back was a nightmare. Fortunately, I had documented everything. After threatening legal action, we received it in full. The next day, our rubbish bin had been run over by a car.
