Tenant Review

From Anonymous
November 12, 2025
Originally rented for 40 per week, now advertised for 50. The location is convenient for access to the city and the unit comes with appliances and a tidy fitout, but the downsides are significant. The 'one-bedroom' units on the Parramatta Rd side are effectively studios, with sliding doors instead of walls—so cooking smells and noise travel straight into the bedroom. Storage is minimal and the fridge space tiny. The balcony is large but unusable due to constant traffic noise, dust and pollution from Parramatta Rd. Air quality and temperature control are poor; keeping doors shut traps heat, opening them covers everything in grime. Mail theft is common and we experienced an attempted break-in from tailgating. Water pressure is weak, the gas heater struggles in winter, and carpets in shared hallways once grew black mould after heavy rain. Upstairs tenants are extremely noisy, often dragging furniture early in the morning. Raine & Horne Newtown have repeatedly raised rent aggressively, citing 'market value' and the owner’s mortgage, despite clear maintenance neglect. Pros: good bus access, warm in winter, elevator and small but usable parking. Cons: not worth 50 a week given all the issues.
