The flat was technically liveable but had serious comfort issues. Concrete walls with minimal insulation and flyscreen vents above the lounge windows made winters freezing. The split system in the lounge was costly to run and didn’t reach the bedrooms. No bathroom exhaust fan meant constant dampness, fogged mirrors and towels, and I resorted to using a small heater. The oven thermostat was off by about 30°C, causing food to burn unless adjusted. Maintenance was slow – it took six months to address a water leak from upstairs, and even after repairs, stains reappeared. Persistent ants, torn kitchen flyscreen, and very poor soundproofing (you hear neighbours’ TVs, sneezes, and toilets) made it an uncomfortable and noisy place to live.
